AirVenture 2022

A bunch of friends from Essex Skypark were attending Oshkosh this year so I went with them.  I was glad I did.  This AirVenture was special because it was the 50th Anniversary of Van's Aircraft Company and there were multiple events celebrating that milestone and recognizing founder Richard VansGrunsven.  Also, Van's Aircraft flew in and introduced the engineering prototype of their new STOL bush plane:  the RV-15.  I flew in on Sunday with another Essex RV and flew home on Thursday with three other Essex RVs.  In addition to all the Van's Aircraft stuff, I went to five, count em, five Warbird in Review sessions which were great.  The weather during the show was almost perfect; low 80s temp and sunny days.  The trip ended on a high note with the fabulous night airshow and fireworks Wednesday night.

This year's attendance figures were a record 650,000 over seven days. The previous record was 642,000 in 2019 and last year was ” 608,000.  There were nearly 19,000 aircraft operations over 11 days at Wittman Regional. There were more than 3200 aircraft parked or on display, including 1156 homebuilts.  More than 5000 volunteers helped EAA put on the show.  There were more than 1400 forums, workshops and presentations held over the week.
